About Us
The International Union of Bricklayers & Allied Craftworkers is the oldest labor organization in North America. Local #6 IL is defined by 6 chapters - Bloomington, Kankakee, LaSalle, Peoria, Rock Island and Rockford - representing approximately 1,500 members. The purpose of the union is to provide for, protect and improve the general welfare of its members.
Members Assistance Program
The Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers’ Member Assistance Program (MAP) provides crisis intervention, referral and information services to BAC members and their families anywhere in North America. Members with serious personal problems may contact a licensed clinical social worker at MAP via a toll-free telephone hotline. The social worker will provide confidential guidance and help.
Apprenticeships
An apprenticeship with Local #6 is a 3 1/2 - 5 year program that involves both on-the-job training and schooling. Pay starts at 50% of Journeyman scale plus chapter benefits (merit increases based on hours worked and time in program ). Most apprentices attend a 10 or 12 week "boot camp" before starting on a job site. Apprentices are paid while on the job, but not for schooling.
